Concert's Newest Tapestry Development Achieves REAP Gold

Vancouver, BC, Canada – Concert is pleased to announce that its newest independent seniors living community – Tapestry at Wesbrook Village UBC – has exceeded sustainability targets and achieved REAP Gold certification.

Administered independently by the University of British Columbia (UBC) Sustainability Office, the Residential Environmental Assessment Program (REAP) certification is awarded only after rigorous requirements have been met.

“We have a strong commitment to sustainability and to achieving REAP objectives at Tapestry through its design, construction and operations,” said Brian McCauley, President, Concert Properties. “Concert has also set in place procedures to continue this process during the service life of the building.”

REAP provides a comprehensive approach to evaluating sustainability from seven primary perspectives: sustainable sites; water efficiency; energy and atmosphere; materials and resources; indoor environmental quality; construction; and innovation and design.

In keeping with its corporate sustainability goal to make environmental practices an integral part of every project, Concert addressed each of these areas.

Tapestry at Wesbrook Village UBC boasts a 60 per cent reduction in water consumption in landscaped areas. Tapestry’s low flow toilets use less than half the water of conventional toilets and its boilers are 90 per cent efficient. With CFL or LED lighting in all common areas, suite entries, kitchens and baths, the building will use up to 75 per cent less power than a typical design.

Tapestry was constructed using regionally available materials, in excess of 60 per cent of the value. The in-suite cabinetry is urea-formaldehyde free. During construction, more than 75 per cent of waste was diverted from the landfill. Over 50 per cent of the roof has been finished as a green roof requiring minimal maintenance while improving energy efficiency and reducing rainwater run-off.

The community is also well connected to public transit networks. As a result of these and numerous other green building initiatives, Tapestry at Wesbrook Village UBC will continue to be a sustainable community well into the future.

Sales and leasing at Tapestry are now underway and occupancy is anticipated for September 2010.
