GOLFERS HIT BALLS SO STUDENTS CAN HIT BOOKS

Vancouver, BC, Canada – Golfers were clearly up to par at the 9th Annual Concert Properties Golf Classic played on September 9 at Northview Golf & Country Club in Surrey.

Thanks to the 160 participants, this year’s tournament raised $39,000 for the Concert Properties Endowment Fund for BCIT. Established in 1995, this fund is used to help deserving students enrolled in the British Columbia Institute of Technology’s trades and technology training program, where they will learn invaluable skills related to the construction industry.

Concert’s endowment now exceeds $379,000, and in the past ten years some 97 students have received bursaries, totalling more than $82,000.

"We want to thank the many sponsors of the tournament for their continued direct support of trades and technology students. We believe that a strong industry hinges on the availability of skilled, well-trained trades people, and this support makes it possible to provide opportunities and money for education and training," said David Podmore, CEO & President, Concert Properties, who has been awarded an Honorary Doctor of Technology degree from the BCIT Board of Governors for his support of the building trades industry.

BCIT President Dr. Tony Knowles said, “Concert Properties and the many supporting sponsors of the tournament are to be congratulated for their continued direct support of trades and technology students. Industry partnerships like this are making a real difference".
