People-first spotlight: Joe Wong

A people-first philosophy makes Concert Properties an award-winning workplace. This month, we are proud to profile an exceptional employee who shares the company’s values and demonstrates their commitment to our principles. Meet Joe Wong, recently promoted to the role of Senior Vice President, Information Systems & Technology, who joined Concert Properties in 2021.

How has your career evolved and led you to Concert Properties?

It’s been a tremendous journey. I began my IT career as a programmer with punch cards and floppy disks! Over the years, I've progressed into leadership roles, gaining experience in all facets of technology. Most importantly, I have been fortunate to work with amazing teams, coaches and mentors. What drew me to Concert Properties was the company’s stellar reputation and the opportunity to execute a strategic change on the organization.

What do you enjoy most about working here?

The people and culture. Having worked in a variety of organizations and industries throughout my career, I can genuinely say that Concert Properties has a very special culture, focused on its people and making a positive impact in our communities.

What have you accomplished at Concert Properties that you are most proud of?

Transforming the Information Systems and Technology (IST) division into a strategic business partner for the company has been a journey I am proud of. It is important to note that this would not have been possible without the incredible people on the IST team. Throughout this process, I've had the pleasure of witnessing them ’lean in’ and evolve into remarkable leaders.

How has Concert Properties helped you grow?

Having spent 25 years in IST supporting financial services, my role at Concert Properties has challenged me to rapidly grow my knowledge across real estate, construction, investments and property management. As a successful IT leader, understanding the core business and cultivating strong business acumen is crucial. The support from the leadership team has been remarkable.

What advice would you give someone just starting out at the company?

Spend your first few months getting to know your team and colleagues, seek out diverse perspectives and focus on building meaningful relationships.

Tell us about your favourite memory at Concert Properties.

There have been quite a few fond memories, but one that stands out is the Union Gospel Mission Summer BBQ sponsored by Concert Properties in the Vancouver Downtown Eastside. Witnessing the entire company come together to support such a wonderful event in our local community was moving.

What’s next on your life’s bucket list?

I would love to go on an expedition cruise in the Antarctic.
