Sierra & Palomar at Village Gate West receive LEED Gold certification

Concert, in conjunction with project partners OMERS and Sun Life, are pleased to have recently received LEED Gold certification from the Canadian Green Building Council for both Sierra and Palomar at Village Gate West. These two assured rental housing developments as just the latest in a long history of environmentally sustainable communities from Concert.

While these are the company’s first LEED certified buildings, Concert’s development and construction teams have long since benchmarked projects against the emerging LEED and other industry standards. Early in the development schedule, Concert implements an integrated design process, working collaboratively with all relevant members of the team to set sustainability goals.

Within Concert’s development and construction pipeline, Motion, Blythwood at Huntington, The Berczy and 88 Scott in Toronto along with Salt in Vancouver are all being developed with LEED Gold certification as the goal. In addition, Motion will also strive to achieve Tier 2 Toronto Green Standards certification. Going forward the company’s sustainability mandate is to achieve LEED Gold or equivalent certification on all new developments.

Concert gives generously this holiday season

Concert CommunityWorks is our way of giving back to the community all year round. This holiday season in particular, we are proud of the generous contributions made by the entire Concert family, including our tenants and staff.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve all been a little busier making efforts to give back. From cleaning out closets for the Cold Weather Clothing Drive in support of Union Gospel Mission, to digging in the cupboards for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, carefully selecting contributions for Christmas Hampers, rounding up toys for the Salvation Army or volunteering time with United Way Victoria to provide a special holiday meal for families in need, Concert tenants and staff members alike are showing the spirit of giving this holiday season.

In addition, Concert is proud to support Bright Nights in Stanley Park with proceeds benefiting the Burn Fund. Concert’s tree in the Parade of Lights will join the two million twinkling lights that create these nights of magic and illumination. Djavid Mowafaghian Child Care Centre breaks ground

Concert staff were proud to be on hand to celebrate a major milestone of the Djavid Mowafaghian Child Care Centre. The recent groundbreaking ceremony, held on Nov. 22 was the first important step in the construction of the 7,373 sq. ft. daycare centre, which will have spaces for 49 children.

Through its project management services, Concert is contributing to this important project as it approaches construction. When it opens its doors in 2014, the Djavid Mowafaghian Child Care Centre will provide a long-sought after child-care resource for hospital staff and area residents.

The groundbreaking event was well attended with many community members, BC Children’s Hospital Foundation board members and staff, Health Minister Dr. Margaret MacDiarmid, and Dr. Djavid Mowafaghian there to celebrate the project partners’ continued commitment to children’s health and education.

Tapestry redefines seniors living in its new video

Tapestry has been redefining seniors living for over a decade and now we’re ready to share the fun with everyone! Shot on location at Tapestry at Wesbrook Village in only two days, the new video showcases residents, staff, family and friends enjoying life to the fullest in typical Tapestry fashion. With a little coordination, some music, and remarkably little coaxing the film crew was able to capture the true essence of the Tapestry lifestyle. A truly beautiful day!

Concert makes it on the small screen

Toronto has always been a hotbed for the entertainment industry, but we didn’t know that Concert would get caught up in the midst of it! This summer the RSA building, at the site of 88 Scott, has hosted a number of film crews including NBC’s “Suits”, the CW’s “Nikita” and “Beauty and the Beast”, the Movie Network and HBO’s “Transporter: The Series”, and CTV’s “Flashpoint”.

Concert’s appearance in Flashpoint - a tense, emotional police drama that takes you into the lives of the team members of the Strategic Response Unit – is the most notable. In the season five premiere, The Berczy makes numerous cameos with Concert’s logo being prominently displayed in the background. You can also catch the RSA building as the Health and Welfare building that explodes in the first 10 minutes of episode 12!

With much of the final three episodes, which aired November 29, December 6 and December 13, being filmed in and around the site of 88 Scott, it might be fun to catch these episodes and see if you can spot Concert’s properties.

Founded in 1989, Concert specializes in developing rental apartments, condominium homes and retirement communities, acquiring and developing commercial, industrial and infrastructure properties and in property management. With operations in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario and the backing of more than 200,000 Canadians represented by the union and management pension plans who own Concert, our commitment is to build strong, sustainable communities across Canada.
