Concert CommunityWorks serves 4,500 meals in the DTES

Concert was extremely proud to have been the lead sponsor for the Union Gospel Mission’s (UGM) 15th annual Summer BBQ event.

On Saturday, July 20 nearly 100 Concert CommunityWorks volunteers helped serve over 4,500 meals to residents of Vancouver’s Dowtown Eastside in Oppenheimer Park. In addition to food, there was live music, a wheelchair repair station and a kid’s mini-carnival which included a bouncy castle, face painting, water fights, a myriad of games and cotton candy.

“We are fortunate to have employees that embrace our values and are willing to donate their time,” says Brian McCauley, President & COO of Concert Properties. “This very worthwhile event for the residents of the Downtown Eastside is one of the most important initiatives we could be part of.”

This initiative is the latest in a series of Concert CommunityWorks events which aim to make a difference within the communities where we live, work and build. To watch a short video which documents the day, click here .

A pipeline of master-planned communities

The Concert development teams in both Vancouver and Toronto are hard at work planning four master-planned communities – together they represent 10-15 years of work for the company.

At Quebec Street and First Avenue in Southeast False Creek, Concert is working on one of the last residential projects on Vancouver’s waterfront. This entirely residential community would entail five buildings, including a significant affordable rental housing component which would be owned by the City. Public amenity enhancements would include a sizable public park as well as bike paths and walk ways. A rezoning application for this community has now been submitted, and a public consultation process will follow.

Located on 12 acres in North Vancouver, Concert envisions Harbourside as a vibrant, pedestrian-oriented, and sustainable community where people can live, work, shop and play. The existing business park would be enhanced by adding a mix of uses while at the same time making dramatic improvements to the City of North Vancouver’s only pedestrian-accessible waterfront. After a successful July 2012 application to amend the City of North Vancouver’s Official Community Plan (OCP) to allow residential development on the site, the rezoning application process has been ongoing. After rezoning, a community-lead process will guide programming of both the original and newly-dedicated park space.

In Coquitlam, we are currently in the initial stages of planning for the redevelopment of our eight-acre site located just blocks from a coming Evergreen Line SkyTrain station. This entirely residential master-planned community will align with the City of Coquitlam’s Transit-Oriented Development Strategy which encourages higher-density, transit-oriented development around Evergreen Line stations.

This summer, Concert acquired land for a multi-phase community in Etobicoke. Located on the western edge of the Etobicoke city centre on Dundas Street between Kipling and Shaver Avenue, this development site is within proximity to Concert’s completed Village Gate West master-planned community. The site will accommodate over 1.1 million square feet of primarily residential space and benefit from quick access to both transit and major highways.

Having already demonstrated the ability to create transformative and innovative master-planned communities both in Toronto and Vancouver, each of these upcoming communities will build upon the company’s award-winning reputation.

Concert builds on industrial presence in Burlington

Concert’s portfolio of income-producing property has grown through the acquisition of a 33-acre industrial property in Burlington, Ontario.

The property contains a fully-leased, multi-tenant industrial building as well as two development sites totaling approximately 16 acres. 4151 North Service Road is a 209,095-square-foot industrial warehouse and light manufacturing facility which features 16 truck-level doors and two drive-in shipping docks. The property has recently benefited from extensive renovations.

“This acquisition expands upon Concert’s presence in the GTA’s industrial market, the fourth largest in North America, and provides the capacity for future development,” said Concert's President and COO, Brian McCauley.

The property is strategically situated within close proximity of major transportation hubs – including Toronto Pearson and John C. Munro Hamilton International Airports as well as the Port of Hamilton. Additionally, the property benefits from easy access to the QEW/403 and 407 highways.
