The nominations keep on coming

Concert is proud to announce that it recently received nominations in both the 2011 MAC Awards held by the Federation of Rental-housing Providers of Ontario (FRPO) and the 2011 Georgie Awards® presented by the BC Chapter of the Canadian Homebuilders’ Association.

Concert staff and rental developments were submitted for consideration in five distinct FRPO Award categories. The full list of finalists and winners are being kept tightly under wraps until FRPO’s Annual Awards Gala in Toronto on December 1, 2011.

Patina, the company’s landmark 42-storey tower in downtown Vancouver received Georgie nominations for Best Multi-Family High Rise Development, Best Sales Centre and for High Rise Residential Community of the Year.

Also in Vancouver, Concert’s Tapestry at Wesbrook Village UBC seniors community received Georgie nominations for Best Multi-Family Low Rise Development, Best Multi-Family Landscape Design, Best Signage, Best Brochure, Best Ad Campaign, Marketing Campaign of the Year and for the Sustainable and Innovative Community Award.

Georgie Award winners will be announced at the 2011 gala to be held in Vancouver on February 25, 2012.

Construction update: Forensic Services Coroners Complex

Concert’s first public infrastructure project recently reached an important milestone. The Forensic Services Coroners Complex (FSCC) recently celebrated its “topping off” with a BBQ for the construction trades and other project stakeholders. Topping-off parties are customary at Concert and celebrate the pouring of the final slab of concrete that “tops off” the building.

The 550,000-square-foot FSCC complex is a purpose-built facility for the Ontario Ministry of Correctional Services located in Downsview, Ontario. The complex will allow the Office of the Chief Coroner, the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service and the Centre of Forensic Sciences to be located in the same facility for the very first time. This will allow staff from the three agencies to collaborate and share resources during the course of their investigations.

FSCC is being developed in partnership with Carillion Canada and is scheduled for completion in early 2013.

A friendly face retires

After almost eight years with Concert as Executive Assistant to Concert’s Chairman and CEO, David Podmore,  it is with mixed emotions that the Concert family recently came together to wish Marguerite Caunt all the best in her retirement. Marguerite has always been a warm and welcoming presence at Concert, a consummate professional and a much-loved colleague and friend to many. We wish to publically acknowledge and thank Marguerite for her loyalty, years of service and for assuming the role of ambassador-extraordinaire for Concert.

Marguerite looks forward to having more time to spend with her family, painting and volunteering with two extraordinary causes - the Vancouver Prostate Centre and the Arthritis Society.

Everyone at Concert will surely miss Marguerite’s friendly face around the office, her optimism and of course her unshakable devotion to the Vancouver Canucks. We wish her all the best!

Concert remembers Dianne Gargaro

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Dianne Gargaro, a dedicated employee we recently lost to ovarian cancer. Dianne had been a part of Concert’s property management team for several years working in a number of the company’s Vancouver residential rental communities. Her positivity, cheerful disposition and dedication to her work made her a real asset at Concert – she will be greatly missed. In Dianne’s memory Concert will be making a donation to Lions Gate Hospital Foundation.

Founded in 1989, Concert specializes in developing rental apartments, condominium homes and retirement communities, acquiring and developing commercial, industrial and infrastructure properties and in property management. With operations in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario and the backing of more than 200,000 Canadians represented by the union and management pension plans who own Concert, our commitment is to build strong, sustainable communities across Canada.
