Between individual commutes, planned group rides and involvement in charity events like the Ride to Conquer Cancer, cycling is a big part of Concert’s culture. On February 27, 2020, Concert was pleased to receive the “Bike-Friendly Business Award” from the HUB Cycling bike awards.

HUB Cycling is a charitable not-for-profit organization that works to increase the number of people in Metro Vancouver who cycle, and to remove any barriers that may discourage people from getting out on their bikes.

They offer audit programs for commercial and office buildings, and were able to extend that service to audit Concert’s residential rental buildings in Vancouver (with the exception of Axis, which is on the University of British Columbia campus).

“I was looking for a resource that would allow us to assess our cycling facilities objectively,” says Dave Ramslie, Concert's Vice President Sustainability. “I wanted to make sure that Concert is going above and beyond just the sad concrete bunkers in underground parkades that many rental tenants are used to. We want to create an environment that fosters healthy, happy communities that inspire people to be more active and make more sustainable commuting choices.”

Scoring an average bikeability score within the silver range, HUB Cycling also offered recommendations for improvement. Moving forward Concert is committed to implementing many changes within our buildings, including the addition of repair stations, painting bike access lanes in parking lots, adding bike-specific way finding, various bike room and rack upgrades and the addition of visitor spots.
