David Podmore, originally set to retire on June 30, 2024, decided to take one final victory lap and will now officially, and as his wife says finally, retire on September 30, 2024. In doing so, he will step down as Chair of Concert Properties, the company he co-founded in 1989, and Concert Infrastructure, which he founded in 2010. As we approach this milestone, we reflect on the profound impact he’s made—not just within our companies, but across industries and communities alike.
For over 50 years, Dave, as he prefers to be called, has been reshaping cities across Canada. But his legacy extends far beyond the skylines he’s transformed or the critical social infrastructure he’s helped create. It’s rooted in the relationships he’s built and nurtured throughout his career as well as the communities and not-for-profits he’s always sought to champion. His commitment to supporting worthy causes has been unwavering, day in and day out, for decades. The impact he’s had on charitable causes is not only the result of his own tireless work, but also his ability to motivate industry partners, convince and cajole government leaders and inspire employees to join him in giving back. Dave’s remarkable dedication to philanthropy may well be his most lasting legacy.
His career has been guided by two fundamental values: respect and integrity. Recently, at events in Toronto and Vancouver honouring his legacy, employees repeatedly spoke about the deep respect Dave consistently shows to others and his unwavering sense of integrity. They also shared stories of his kindness, warmth, sense of humour and the genuine care and appreciation he’s always shown for his team.
In his own words, Dave’s philosophy is simple: “Always do the right thing.” It’s a credo that has defined his leadership and vision, and perhaps is the greatest gift he’s given us all.
From everyone at Concert Properties and Concert Infrastructure, and on behalf of all those whose lives you’ve touched across this country, thank you, Dave, for everything you’ve given us. As you embark on this next chapter—whether it’s traveling, pursuing your passions, or spending time with loved ones—we wish you nothing but the best. You’ve more than earned it. And rest assured, all of us will strive to honour and uphold your remarkable legacy in the years to come.
